## When Does Stock Trading End Today?
The official closing time for stock trading on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the Nasdaq Stock Market is 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time (ET). However, there are several important exceptions to this rule.
### Extended-Hours Trading
Extended-hours trading allows investors to buy and sell stocks before the regular trading day begins and after it ends. The NYSE offers extended-hours trading from 4:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. ET and from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET. The Nasdaq offers extended-hours trading from 4:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. ET and from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET.
### Pre-Market Trading
Pre-market trading allows investors to place orders before the regular trading day begins. The NYSE offers pre-market trading from 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. ET. The Nasdaq offers pre-market trading from 7:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. ET.
### Holidays
The NYSE and Nasdaq are closed on all major U.S. holidays, including New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. On these days, there is no stock trading.
### Early Closures
On rare occasions, the NYSE and Nasdaq may close early due to severe weather or other unforeseen circumstances. When this happens, the exchanges will typically announce the early closure in advance.
